Science and Industry Museum – Turn it Up: The power of music
Turn it Up: The Power of music opened at the Science and Industry Museum in Manchester in October 2022. Our design was inspired by the forms and rhythms of music and the colourful, repeating tube structures help make the space feel like a giant playable instrument. Conceived by the museum as a "riotous, hands-on experience" our designs used bold forms and combinations of colour to bring this vision to life.
This exhibition also allowed us to test a more sustainable approach to exhibition making – almost all of the walls, partitions and plinth structures were made from recycled cardboard tubes and the graphics were printed on cardboard panels. This use of cardboard to create the exhibition spaces radically cuts down the amount of wood and MDF required and will allow much of the exhibition to be recycled at the end of its life.
