The Design Museum – Beazley Designs of the Year 2016
All Things Studio designed one of the two opening exhibitions for the new Design Museum in Kensington. Beazley Designs of the Year brings together around 75 projects and “celebrates design that promotes or delivers change, enables access, extends design practice or captures the spirit of the year.”
The inspiration for our design was the museum’s move to the former Commonwealth Institute and the idea of a building and an institution transformed. The design works extensively with plaster, a material that embodies transformation and displays its own history of production. By leaving the surfaces unpainted there is also a sense of future possibility, of a work in progress.
The plaster finish is also seamless, allowing projects from diverse disciplines to be brought together on the same expansive, continuous surface and helping reinforce the idea that there are common concerns, common themes at play.
